There is a national emphasis on COVID-19 testing now which makes the discoverability of local COVID-19 testing sites super important.
Schema.org has published new COVID-19 related tags including a CovidTestingFacility tag.
The White House has published general guidance for Federal and State CIOs
The City of Chicago’s Public Health Order 2020-6 Executive Order on April 29th mandates testing sites use these tags to publish machine-readable test site location data on their websites.
Apple Maps has these instructions on how to upload test site location data as well.
A typical discovery experience may look something like this (kinda obvious but worth noting):
- Person is told to get a test or thinks they need a test, searches for COVID-19 testing sites
2. After clicking “Coronavirus testing centers” they see results and a map
3. Then they click on “Website” to go to the testing location’s website
